The Company:

Vicbooks

Vicbooks, situated on the Kelburn and Pipitea campuses at Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), prides itself on being one of the few independent book stores in New Zealand. Their primary focus and their strength is supplying textbooks, books for brains, and anything hard to find.

The Challenge:

Vicbooks had an established website that had some visibility in the Search Engines, but they could see there was potential to improve on it. They engaged us to optimise their website for them, with a focus on increasing their website’s visibility nationally.

The Solution:

We optimised Vicbook’s website in December. A few weeks later the keywords/phrases that we had optimised were beginning to appear in the Search Engines for a number of the keywords and phrases that we had optimised. The Vicbook’s website now has very good visibility nationally with top ten rankings in http://www.google.co.nz/ (when limiting the search to pages from NZ) for a good majority of the keywords/phrases that we optimised for them. It is also getting a number of top ten rankings in http://www.google.com/

Business Benefits:

Vicbooks received a record number of website visitors in February (their highest number to date) just two months after optimisation was completed on their website. Correspondingly, the number of Search Engine referrals in February also reached the highest number to date (a 56% increase on the previous highest result) indicating that the increased visibility in the Search Engines contributed to the increase in Vicbook’s website visitor numbers. The best news was that Vicbooks reported a 25% increase in website sales for texts in February (in comparison to the same period last year). The iniatives that Vicbooks introduced to promote their website (including the Search Engine Optimisation project) have provided them with some pleasing results.

Customer Feedback:

“The changes SEO have brought to our google rankings have far exceeded our expectations, we have gone from a page five ranking to page one when searching within New Zealand. The process was painless, our SEO Specialist did all the work for us. The increase in sales we have seen through our site due to SEO will allow us to continue to invest in our site to make it the best it can be for our customers. We are really pleased, who knew that something seemingly so simple could make so much difference.”
